Europeans should have ‘free and open’ access to broadband

The EP’s Committee for Industry, Transport and Research is researching ways to improve Wi-Fi broadband for European citizens, ISPreview reports.One of the ways they could improve the service is to free up ‘white space’ radio spectrum to carry wireless signals. This is the space between TV channels.Jérémie Zimmermann of citizen group La Quadrature du Net, supported the plans for better broadband services.“This vote must now be confirmed by the rest of the parliament, in plenary,” Top10.com reported him as saying.“We can be sure that the telecoms and broadcasting industries will lobby hard in order to remain in control of airwaves.”Yesterday it was revealed that Japanese company Fujitsu has proposed plans which could provide five million Brits living in rural locations superfast broadband speeds of up to 1Gbps.
