After the electronics giant suffered an enormous data breach, it has left businesses around the world feeling more vulnerable than ever.
Small businesses should take extreme caution when it comes to customer details. Sony was victim to a second data breach where nearly 25 million customers’ details were stolen from its Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) Network.
It was only discovered on Monday that details of PC gamers were stolen from its servers, including names, addresses, emails, birth dates and phone numbers; along with an ‘outdated database’ from 2007. This had occurred before the details of 77 million people were stolen from the PlayStation Network (PSN).
A Sony spokeswoman in Tokyo said that they are hackers.
“We don’t know where they’re going to attack next.”
It is important that small businesses of the UK protect their data now. Any business that holds data is at risk of being targeted by what’s known as a ‘criminal cyber attack’ which could cause a high number of difficulties.
If a small business was to be victim to theft of customer details, it would suffer a colossal amount of financial loss as it attempts to rectify the problems, compensate customers’ loss and maybe even prosecution costs.
