You just cannot believe the number of scams there are out there. Get Rich Gurus (“GRQs”) promise you the moon, if only you put out a few thousand dollars. There are scams for internet businesses, scams for home based businesses, scams for starting your own business. If you can think of it, there is a scam for it.

How do you know it is not a scam? “Trust” is hard to define, but that is the feeling that you need. Look at how much money you are being asked to part with, and look for real evidence from real people who have succeeded. Be able to verify that success from a neutral third party. (i.e., If they give you a “phone number” to call or an email address, rest assured that it is staffed by their own people.) GRQs are a slippery lot, so be on the watch.

Watch, too, for claims that are just unreal. There are no overnight successes, not in any business. Success takes work. If it is too good to be true, it is not true — every single time.

So what is a realistic claim when looking for the best rated home business?

A lot of “success” depends on what you need from your business. Some people are looking for a few hundred dollars a month to supplement their income. Some need thousands of dollars to replace an existing job, or a job they once had. If someone needing a few hundred dollars a month earned $800, she would be ecstatic, while someone who needed thousands would be very disappointed with that income.

“Success” depends too on how much time you have to devote to your business. If you can only work part time on weekends, your success will be quite different from someone who works 8-10 hours every single day.

So sit down with yourself, work through a good home business start up guide, and decide what you really want, and how you can really get it.
