For the past 10 years a story of Southern charm and enterprise has wound its way up the eastern seaboard, spread into Pennsylvania, and has now found another new home in Hanover.

Books-A-Million (BAM!), which is based in Birmingham, Ala., just opened in mid-November in the site recently left vacant by Waldenbooks in the North Hanover Mall.

“Everyone loves a good bookstore, and BAM! is thrilled to open in Hanover,” said Terrance G. Finley, president and chief operating officer for Books-A-Million Inc. “We have an array of products for everyone in the Hanover area, and we know that we will be a perfect fit in the community.”

Established in 1917 by two brothers as a street corner newsstand in Florence, Ala., the corporate giant operates more than 200 stores in 31 states and the District of Columbia. BAM! is one of the nation’s largest book retailers.

BAM! has been the premier book retailing chain in the southeastern United States for decades, General Manager Mark Cassells said, with many new BAM! stores opening along the east coast in the last five to 10 years.

This is the 12th BAM! in Pennsylvania, Cassells said, with the Hanover store currently employing 10 people.

Hanover’s store offers an expansive selection of hard and soft cover books, Nook e-books, magazines, toys, electronic accessories for most brands, Cassells said, and of course – its famous southern style friendly and helpful customer service.

“We are really excited to be in town and a lot of customers say they are overjoyed to have us here,” Cassells said, “We are looking forward to a long relationship with Hanover.”

BAM! has a host of features to entice a wide variety of shoppers, Cassells said, with one of the main attractions being the Nook e-book, featuring ‘Nook Simple Touch’ and Nook Color. All Nook products are available for customers to see, hold and try at BAM!’s special in-store displays, Cassells said.

The store also offers all the latest electronic accessories such as ear buds, headphones, and cases for iPhones, iPods and eReaders, Cassells said.

The area’s youth are not left out at BAM! with another feature being the ‘Kids-A-Million’ area at the back of the store, Cassells said, featuring children’s books, Leap Frog learning resources, and a host of toys and games offering kid appeal – and parent/teacher approval.

‘Faithpoint’ is another specialty of BAM!, Cassells said, with an abundant selection of Bibles, Christian Living and Christian Fiction Books.

BAM! also has a huge selection of bargain books, Cassells said, which is a wealthy mix of classics and new titles all at low prices.

Another customer favorite at BAM!, Cassells said, is the huge selection of DVD’s featuring the newest releases plus great bargains on previously viewed DVD’s and Blu-rays. Hundreds of magazines are also in stock featuring lifestyle, sports, health, wedding, fashion, science, and news, just to name a few, Cassells said.

Customers can also sign up for the BAM! Millionaire’s Club, Cassells said. Patrons taking advantage of the Millionaire’s Club save big time, Cassells said, getting 40 percent off bestsellers, 20 percent off of hundreds of other items, and 10 percent off of almost everything else.

It costs $20 a year to be in the BAM! Millionaire’s Club, Cassells said, but members receive $75 worth of coupons “right off the bat.”

Millionaire’s Club members also receive invitation-only offers for special sale events, exclusive promotions and coupons through weekly emails, Cassells said.
