Start Up Christian Business

We are often asked about starting a “Christian business”. (If you are of another religion, just substitute that religion into the quotes. The article that follows applies to you, too.)

A tougher issue are those entrepreneurs who want to exemplify Christian ethics within a business. (or Moslem ethics, or Buddhist ethics, or Jewish ethics, etc.) Many of these people have become disillusioned with working in corporate America, and for good reason: America is pure capitalism, and while that economic model is essentially a good one, it sometimes forces other approaches off the playing field. Those managers who are more in tune with keeping good employees compete daily with managers who are more in tune with a strong bottom line.

Two years ago I “attended” the first Social Media Success Summit, a virtual event with “experts” from around the world on social media marketing. To be honest, I didn’t have high expectations; I was already being inundated with invitations for real world and virtual social media marketing events, and most were pretty weak on any compelling content. However, my friend Denise Wakeman

was involved, and she said it was worth my time. She had never led me astray before, so took a chance.

It was well worth it. Besides Denise, there was a host of great presenters who went well past how to setup a Facebook page.

This year marks the 3rd annual Social Media Success Summit, put on by the same people who put on the Facebook Success Summit and the recent Blogging Success Summit, where I had an opportunity to present. In short:

When NovaSom Inc. was looking to produce its sleep apnea diagnostic kits, the Glen Burnie-based company didn’t look to factories in Asia or Mexico. Instead, it found a manufacturer right off the Beltway in Woodlawn.

NovaSom chose Zentech Manufacturing Inc. for two key reasons: Executives here could oversee quality control, and the kits could be shipped to domestic customers in just days, not weeks or months.

After years of American companies shipping jobs and contracts overseas, some are choosing local manufacturers or even “re-shoring” — bringing those jobs and work back to the United States. With the economy crumbling several years ago, many companies were forced to re-evaluate their global supply chains.

General Electric Co., for instance, recently announced that it plans to invest more than $400 million to bring back refrigeration and appliance manufacturing from South Korea to plants in four U.S. s Read full post…
